Sam is a very polite tourist. He travels around the world and always asks for things very nicely. One day, he goes into a small shop in a busy city. He sees many things.

Excuse me, do you speak English?” Sam asks the shop assistant with a smile.
“Yes! Can I help you?” she says.

Can I have one of those batteries, please? It’s for my camera,” Sam says, holding up his camera.
Yes, of course! Here you are,” the shop assistant says, giving him a small battery.

Then, Sam feels hungry. He goes to a snack bar and says to the waiter, “Can I have a sandwich and an apple juice, please?”
The waiter says, “That’s six euros, please.
“Oh no,” Sam says. “I only have five euros. Can I just have the sandwich, please?”

“Yes, of course! Here you are,” the waiter says, giving him the sandwich. Sam thanks him with a big smile. He feels happy to have lunch.

Next, Sam wants to see more of the city. He goes to a ticket seller and says, “Can I have a ticket to Sydney, please?
The ticket seller says, “That’s twenty-five dollars.
Sam gives him the money, and the ticket seller says, “Here you are! Your train is at platform three.”

As Sam walks away, he smiles. Everywhere he goes, people help him because he says “please” and “thank you.”

Sam is “The Very Polite Traveler,” always asking nicely wherever he goes.

Can I have a sandwich, please?
One of those batteries, please?
Could I have a ticket to Sydney?
Can I have a postcard, please?
Asking nicely, every day,
In the shop and on our way.

Yes, of course. Here you are.
That’s how we ask, near or far.
Yes, of course. Here you are.

Can I help you? Yes, please do,
Could I have some stamps too?
Here’s your postcard and your stamps,
That’s two pounds fifty, thanks in advance.
Asking nicely, every day,
In the shop and on our way.

That’s how we ask, near or far.

At a snack bar once again,
Asking nicely, every day,

Have a good day, see you soon!

In the shop and on our way.
